Triple Book Review: The Goddess Test Series by Aimee Carter

I am officially giving my review of the second book in the Goddess Test Series, but in my opinion, in order to review the second book, you might want to know about book #1 and #1.5, so that is what I plan to do, start from the beginning of this amazingly talented series!

Today I am reviewing a book called The Goddess Test (book #1) by Aimee Carter
Release Date: 4-19-11
Genre: Young Adult
ISBN: 9780373210268

Book Summary:

It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

My Opinion:

I really really liked this book, I liked James right from the getgo. My kinda guy. Ava, mmmm...did not really care for her, but she did her job well. What she did to Kate was not ok, but what Kate did for her was amazing. Takes a really truly good person to put aside her feelings and do what is right. And I admire her tremendously for her bravery.
Henry...what to say about him, um, sounds like every girl's fantasy! What he offers Kate seems pretty fair, and what she has to give back is also fair. What has she got to lose, when her mother dies, she is gonna be all alone anyways, so why not right?!?
Seeing Kate go into Eden Manor and switch her life totally was pretty inspiring. She is one heck of a girl. It was nice for her to finally make friends with Ava and see them be able to stay together there and remain friends. Nice to see after the initial crap with their becoming friends smoothed out, that they are really there for each other.
Watching Kate work so hard to pass her tests, and to make sure Henry does not fade takes some strong willpower, kudos to you. All in all I thought the person that Kate is is amazing, and hard to come by these days. I was totally shocked to see who the council was, Henry's brothers and sisters. I will not spoil that for you.

I give this book a 5 star rating, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, so totally did not want to put it down and do the normal day to day things in my daily life, just wanted to sit and keep reading. I love Aimee's style. I do not know much about greek mythology, but I do know she changed things up a bit, and that is a-ok with me, a novel is just that. fiction. Great job! and I will keep this as a book series to come back to time and again.

The Goddess Hunt (book #1.5)
Release Date: 3-1-12
Genre: Young Adult
ISBN: 9781426834158

Book Summary:

A vacation in Greece sounds like the perfect way for Kate Winters to spend her first sabbatical away from the Underworld...until she gets caught up in an immortal feud going back millennia. Castor and Pollux have been on the run from Zeus and Hades's wrath for centuries, hiding from the gods who hunt them. The last person they trust is Kate, the new Queen of the Underworld. Nevertheless, she is determined to help their cause. But when it comes to dealing with immortals, Kate still has a lot to learn....

My Opinion:

This is a Novella in the series, a short story. Short and sweet, and was nice to see her spend some time with James. I love James, and I can clearly see how much he loves Kate. I am glad she is married to Henry though, because they seem to fit together. I like how he cares so much for her to check on her, and not let her know that he is. Shows his softer side, even though he has a really hard time showing it himself. I love Kate's true self, how she views people and situations, such honor and integrity! Like I said, this is short and sweet, but I am glad I read it.

4 star rating.

Goddess Interrupted (book #2)

Genre: Young Adult

Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans. As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.Henry's first wife, Persephone.

My Opinion:

This book has a lot of action! Again, I loved this book, and had a very hard time putting it down. This time I did neglect my daily duties and read this book in a whole day. The only problem with that, is now I am done and do not have another book in the series waiting for me, I now need to wait until the next book comes out. Tough.
I still love Henry and Kate, I love James for looking out for Kate's feelings and interests even though they are partly selfish reasons on his part. I do not really care for the infidelities within the gods and goddess's but they are what they are. I wish Henry would be a little more affectionate, takes him a ways into the book before he does, almost at the end, and that stinks a little bit, but I guess it's better late than never. Kinda disappointed in Ava at the end, and the very ending ended kinda unfair, unfair in the fact that it was a major cliffhanger, and I got to wait for the next book to come out. But that is ok, I can impatiently wait for the next release, happily. Because feeling like that makes me know that it was an amazing book.
I am trying to not give to many spoilers on these books, because you really do want to read them.

I give this book a 5 star rating, read it, with an open mind. Do not rtead too much into the greek mythology that you have already learned, take this novel the way it was written, and enjoy a different spin on things.
