Going On's around here

Hey all, let's just say when all this home buying crap is done with, man will I be glad.  I am so tired.  We are finally getting it, but it is still going to be a couple more weeks, and it's only getting colder here~Yikes.  Keep your fingers crossed for us though!

I did lower the price of my quilt, I am trying to sell it for $350, and let's just say that that price does not even cover the cost of materials and the quilting job, but I am in urgent need of selling it along with some other items in my shop if you know of anyone interested.

Happenings around here right now.....

Hey Guys!  Sorry it's kinda been crazy and non existent around here lately.  We have been trying to buy a house for about 8 months now, have been under contract for two separate houses now, and for various reasons I will not name they both fell through.  We are under contract with our third house, and it is our dream house (more on that in a few), and this process for this house has been a nightmare also.  Who knew trying to buy a house would be so frustrating and demanding?  It seems like one thing after another again with this place, but for the price and what we are getting, it is THE ONE!
As you know my husband and I have 4 kids, and have always rented, well, the house we are trying to buy is an old farmhouse, with plenty of space and bedrooms, and I even get my own sewing room :D  The house is not updated, but we can do that, it has a barn (that also needs some work), and an old milk shed, and another outbuilding, then you add on top of all that, 10 acres, where 3 are pastures and 7 are woods.  And we love to garden, and have wanted livestock for a good many years now, but have not lived where we could have them.
So, needless to say, we feel this is the one place for us to venture and start with the rest of our lives from here on out with.
So, again might be kinda sparse here for a bit, at one point, internet will be down, and I gotta finish packing up this house, then when we move I gotta clean, and unpack, and well you know the drill.

I would love to sell some items in my shop to help with the cost of things, and to have less to move, so if you know of anyone looking for some handmade items for Christmas presents, as you know it is fast approaching, send them to my shop, please???  you can find it here.

And please bear with me during the next few weeks, Thank You.

What I have been up too........

Things have been super busy around here lately.  I have been trying to get some work done, but for some reason the kids keep limiting my creative time, kinda stinks! Anyways, here are some pics of what I have been working on, and it's a little bit of this, a little of that.
I have also been packing, as we are looking into buying a house, our very own honest to goodness house.  Cross your fingers for us, there are only a couple steps left in the process until we find out if this one little gem will be ours.

A baby blanket I listed for sale in my shop
A Japanese embroidery design, I have a few books, I have a secret obsession fondness with all things crafty from Japan.  This is going to be in my sewing room.
A block from a previous issue of Quiltmaker's 100 blocks, and I am having a brain fart on which issue and block number, but the designer did a beautiful job with this creation!
And finally another baby quilt that I listed for sale in my shop also.  It came out so beautiful!

I have got some ideas for designs and quilts rolling thru my head, I just need some time to get them down on paper, and some time from the kiddos to work I mean play in my sewing room.  Maybe they will give me some time next week on my birthday? I am going to be 33~YIKES!!

I will soon find out...........until next time

Items in my Shop

I have some items listed in my shop, and have reduced some of the prices, check it out!  I appreciate it.  I have been being crafty lately in the little spare time I have had.  I have been embroidering, crocheting a pair of socks, and sewing a bag pattern with more info about that soon.
It is official, the kids are on summer vacation and I am not quite sure yet if that is a good or bad thing yet :D  they have been.......uummmmm....yup they have just been.  It's been a long two days and bedtime doesn't seem to come soon enough.  I know once we get into the swing of things, and get a somewhat routine down then it will not seem so bad.
I have been working out trying to be healthier.  I have also been eating healthier.  I am doing a walking video and am walking 4 miles a day about 5-6 days a week in the comfort of my own living room.  I can say that I have been feeling way better than when I was not doing this.  Well, I will post some pictures of my works in progress in the next few days, but in the meantime, go ahead and check out my shop!!
I hope it's nice where you live, it's beautiful here, and after a week of nonstop rain, the sun shining is just what the doctor ordered.  Now I am off to feed the kiddos lunch and run some much needed errands.

Which fabric was hard to part with? They are all lovely!
**

First off, I would love to welcome you to my blog.  You must be visiting from Quiltmaker's Quilty Pleasures blog for the 100 Blocks blog tour.
I would like to introduce myself just in case this is your first time visiting.  I am Stacey, I live in Maine with my wonderful supportive husband (getting ready to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary in a couple weeks!), and our 4 crazy kids.  We own our own Custom Woodworking and Cabinetry business, and I spend my spare time quilting.  I taught myself to quilt  almost 5 years ago, and have been going on since.  I love to create, and make something beautiful!  I have been working hard to make something of myself, but it can be extremely hard sometimes.
Being featured in Quiltmaker's 100 blocks Issue is a major dream come true for me.  And to be part of something that so many amazingly talented people/quilters have also been a part of is just WOW!  I am going to continue being creative, and hope to be even more so.

My block is called Pinwheel Paws, and it is Block #452, and featured on page 49.  This block below was my first one I submitted, but they contacted me and asked it I could make on more contrasting.  So that is the second picture below.  I love them both, and I hope to be able to make a large quilt with this design soon.  (and also using some very special fabric I cannot seem to part with).

I hope you like them.

Ok, so now, for a giveaway!  The wonderful people over at Quiltmaker magazine are generously giving away a complimentary issue of this magazine to one of my readers!  And I am going to give away a second issue and include a pdf bundle set of my patterns (Stripes and Giggles, Stars and Strips, Castles, and my Country Crow Wall Hanging).  All you need to do to enter is become a follower of my blog, and leave me a comment saying Hi, and where you are from.  Easy right?  I hope you come back, and Thank you for stopping by, I really appreciate you sharing in this accomplishment with me.

So, I have been wanting one of these coffee mugs in forever! Well, the other day my very own one arrived at my house.  Major for this small town Maine girl!  I also just wanted to let you know, next week I will be having a post here about my block, and having a giveaway!  I also got my issue of this magazine last night.  I will have some for sale also.
I am trying to make some of my quilting dreams come true, it's sometimes harder than it looks, or seems, but so totally worth it.  I hope to see you come back next week!

Book Review: Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins

Today I am reviewing a book called Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins
Release Date: April 24, 2012
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
ISBN: 9780373776580

Book Summary:

After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon's Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father's wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she's not thrilled…even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC….

My Opinion:

I absolutely love Kristan's writing style. She makes me feel so much, and laugh often (which is sometimes very hard for me to do while reading). Parker and Nicky, love them! I loved them from reading Ethan and Lucy's story. I truly loved Parker's story. James, Yum! He works with his hands well, which my husband does and he's really smart! Thing One, I gotta say I love that, and it totally suits him. Their connection is there, even though it took a while for them to express themselves.
It is too bad about what happened to Parker, but she is an extremely strong woman, and I was glad to see her stand tall and work hard. I love Maine, I live here, and it is truly one of the most beautiful places I have been. I have a feeling that I may be planning a trip this summer to go visit this town.

I would give this book a 4 star rating. Nothing bad, it was a really awesome book! If you are in a laugh out loud kind of mood, almost any of Kristan Higgin's books are for you!

Triple Book Review: The Goddess Test Series by Aimee Carter

I am officially giving my review of the second book in the Goddess Test Series, but in my opinion, in order to review the second book, you might want to know about book #1 and #1.5, so that is what I plan to do, start from the beginning of this amazingly talented series!

Today I am reviewing a book called The Goddess Test (book #1) by Aimee Carter
Release Date: 4-19-11
Genre: Young Adult
ISBN: 9780373210268

Book Summary:

It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.

My Opinion:

I really really liked this book, I liked James right from the getgo. My kinda guy. Ava, mmmm...did not really care for her, but she did her job well. What she did to Kate was not ok, but what Kate did for her was amazing. Takes a really truly good person to put aside her feelings and do what is right. And I admire her tremendously for her bravery.
Henry...what to say about him, um, sounds like every girl's fantasy! What he offers Kate seems pretty fair, and what she has to give back is also fair. What has she got to lose, when her mother dies, she is gonna be all alone anyways, so why not right?!?
Seeing Kate go into Eden Manor and switch her life totally was pretty inspiring. She is one heck of a girl. It was nice for her to finally make friends with Ava and see them be able to stay together there and remain friends. Nice to see after the initial crap with their becoming friends smoothed out, that they are really there for each other.
Watching Kate work so hard to pass her tests, and to make sure Henry does not fade takes some strong willpower, kudos to you. All in all I thought the person that Kate is is amazing, and hard to come by these days. I was totally shocked to see who the council was, Henry's brothers and sisters. I will not spoil that for you.

I give this book a 5 star rating, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, so totally did not want to put it down and do the normal day to day things in my daily life, just wanted to sit and keep reading. I love Aimee's style. I do not know much about greek mythology, but I do know she changed things up a bit, and that is a-ok with me, a novel is just that. fiction. Great job! and I will keep this as a book series to come back to time and again.

The Goddess Hunt (book #1.5)
Release Date: 3-1-12
Genre: Young Adult
ISBN: 9781426834158

Book Summary:

A vacation in Greece sounds like the perfect way for Kate Winters to spend her first sabbatical away from the Underworld...until she gets caught up in an immortal feud going back millennia. Castor and Pollux have been on the run from Zeus and Hades's wrath for centuries, hiding from the gods who hunt them. The last person they trust is Kate, the new Queen of the Underworld. Nevertheless, she is determined to help their cause. But when it comes to dealing with immortals, Kate still has a lot to learn....

My Opinion:

This is a Novella in the series, a short story. Short and sweet, and was nice to see her spend some time with James. I love James, and I can clearly see how much he loves Kate. I am glad she is married to Henry though, because they seem to fit together. I like how he cares so much for her to check on her, and not let her know that he is. Shows his softer side, even though he has a really hard time showing it himself. I love Kate's true self, how she views people and situations, such honor and integrity! Like I said, this is short and sweet, but I am glad I read it.

4 star rating.

Goddess Interrupted (book #2)
Release Date: 3-27-12
Genre: Young Adult
ISBN: 9780373210459

Book Summary:

Kate Winters has won immortality. But if she wants a life with Henry in the Underworld, she'll have to fight for it.Becoming immortal wasn't supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she's as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he's becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans. As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.Henry's first wife, Persephone.

My Opinion:

This book has a lot of action! Again, I loved this book, and had a very hard time putting it down. This time I did neglect my daily duties and read this book in a whole day. The only problem with that, is now I am done and do not have another book in the series waiting for me, I now need to wait until the next book comes out. Tough.
I still love Henry and Kate, I love James for looking out for Kate's feelings and interests even though they are partly selfish reasons on his part. I do not really care for the infidelities within the gods and goddess's but they are what they are. I wish Henry would be a little more affectionate, takes him a ways into the book before he does, almost at the end, and that stinks a little bit, but I guess it's better late than never. Kinda disappointed in Ava at the end, and the very ending ended kinda unfair, unfair in the fact that it was a major cliffhanger, and I got to wait for the next book to come out. But that is ok, I can impatiently wait for the next release, happily. Because feeling like that makes me know that it was an amazing book.
I am trying to not give to many spoilers on these books, because you really do want to read them.

I give this book a 5 star rating, read it, with an open mind. Do not rtead too much into the greek mythology that you have already learned, take this novel the way it was written, and enjoy a different spin on things.
